What we get is a more in-depth telling of Jason’s lost years and a comic that should appeal to fans of the original comic arc and the Red Hood character, but likely won’t sway anyway who was not a fan of either. With Batman Annual #25 Judd Winick gave readers the backstory of Jason Todd and how he spent his missing years, but obviously, he thought he could expand on that with a six issue mini-series.

Despite my misgivings about the decision I did overall enjoy Batman: Under the Red Hood and thought the animated adaption of the story was even better. I’ve always felt that bringing back Jason Todd back from the dead was a mistake, but given the popularity of the storyline in which he was brought back and the character’s popularity in recent years, it’s clear my opinion is in the minority.
